Privacy policy

Park Pocket is an umbrella brand for offline guidebook apps for national parks in Africa. The data controller for these apps is Park Pocket, operated by DeGans, the publisher of record on Google Play. Contact: hello@parkpocket.app.
This policy covers all Park Pocket apps, including the Etosha app.
What the app stores on your device
Each app ships with its map data, points of interest, and historical wildlife sightings as bundled assets. None of this data identifies you. Nothing is downloaded after install for the data to work.
Location
The app uses your device location only when you open the "Around me" feature. Your location is used on-device to calculate the nearest waterholes, camps, and gates. Your location never leaves your device. We do not transmit it, log it, or share it with anyone.
If you do not grant the location permission, every other feature of the app continues to work. Only the "Around me" feature is unavailable.
Network usage
The app is designed to work fully offline. The only network use is cosmetic and optional: when online, the basemap can fetch text-label fonts from a public content delivery network so place names render with the right typeface. Offline, the basemap still works minus those text labels. We do not run analytics, crash reporting services, advertising SDKs, or any third-party tracking SDKs in the app.
When the app makes any network request, the server it talks to sees your IP address (this is unavoidable for any network request) and the file you requested. We do not log per-user identifiers, we do not set cookies, and we do not associate your IP address with any account.
Accounts and user content
There are no user accounts. The app does not collect a name, email address, password, or any profile information. The app does not let you create user-generated content, and the app does not upload anything from your device.
Payments
If you purchase the app on Google Play, payment is handled entirely by Google Play. We never receive your payment details. Google provides us with aggregated, non-personal sales statistics. Google's own privacy policy applies to the purchase: policies.google.com/privacy.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, regardless of age, because the app does not collect personal data at all.
Your rights under GDPR
Because the app does not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is no personal data on file for us to access, correct, export, or erase. If you have a question about this policy, or you want to confirm that no data is associated with you, contact hello@parkpocket.app and we will respond.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted on the Park Pocket landing page.
